The world’s most attractive employers for 2020

Where do you want to work? If you’re with the majority of young people surveyed, it’s probably for one of the big name technology brands.

Employer branding firm Universum surveyed over 235,273 university and college students from 12 countries to determine the most coveted employers by the latest generation of talent to enter the job market.

“This year we witnessed interesting shifts in industry preferences among students across the globe,” explains Richard Mosley, chief strategist at Universum. “Careers in professional services, banking and strategic consulting all dropped in prestige, while careers in IT, automotive and even manufacturing rose significantly. What we are witnessing is a strong desire among students to work for industries which are more associated with tech innovation which are shaping the future.”

Engineering students were also particularly interested in working for automotive companies with Daimler AG, Volkswagen, and BMW Group all ranking high on their list of top employers. However, Google, Apple, and Microsoft were the top three for all groups.

While the big banks and financial institutions have been among the most desired brands to work for in previous years, for people entering the workforce in 2020, the tech and automotive industries have risen significantly as coveted industries.
